Note: The application for admissions to BCC is a separate process. You may apply for admissions at any time while you are completing your application for accommodation with DSS, but it is strongly suggested to complete the admissions application first, before you proceed to the DSS application.
(Note the admissions application deadlines for each quarter).
Application Steps
Step 1
Submit your BCC Admissions ApplicationIf you are new to the college or have not taken classes for two consecutive quarters, complete and submit a BCC admissions application first. If you are taking Continuing Education classes only, you do not need to apply for admission.
Step 2
Contact DSS and identify yourself as an individual with a qualifying disability. Call 425/ 564-2498 or TTY 425/ 564-4110 or e-mail dss@bcc.ctc.edu.Step 3
Provide documentation of your disability. There are specific documentation requirements that you must provide that include a diagnosis and explanation of how your disability will affect you in an educational setting. Refer to the detailed information on documentation requirements in the DSS Handbook on this site.
Step 4
Submit a DSS intake form. This form may be submitted online through this website. You may also download a copy of the form to print out and complete by hand.
Step 5
Make an appointment to meet with a DSS staff person. After you have completed the form in Step 4, set up an appointment with a DSS staff person by calling 425/ 564-2498, TTY 425/ 564-4110, or e-mail dss@bcc.ctc.edu.
Step 6
Request reasonable accommodation during your meeting with DSS.Your one-on-one meeting with a DSS staff person will give you an opportunity to identify your individual needs, discuss goals and develop strategies for overcoming barriers to success.
Step 7
Take the COMPASS
assessment test
Students who are approved for extended time testing should contact the
receptionist at the DSS office by calling 425/ 564-2498, TTY 425/ 564-4110,
or e-mail dss@bcc.ctc.edu to schedule
their assessment test.
Other students should contact the Assessment office and arrange to take an assessment test to place in English and Math levels. The Assessment calendar is posted on the Web, as well as sample questions for COMPASS to help you prepare. The Assessment office phone is 425/ 564-2243 and they may be reached via e-mail at mgroshon@bcc.ctc.edu.
Note: If you are taking Continuing Education classes only, you do not need to take assessment tests. You can skip this step.
Step 8
Meet with a curriculum or faculty advisor.
It is a good idea to discuss your planned course load with your DSS contact.
Students with disabilities are more successful when taking 10 credits
or less each quarter. All students are strongly encouraged to meet with
an academic advisor who
will review your academic goals with you and help you plan your class
schedule.
If you are enrolling in a professional technical (occupational) program, you should also meet with the faculty advisor from that program.
An online program
guide to BCC's professional technical programs is available on the
BCC website. Faculty advisors for each program are listed within this
material.
Note: If you are taking Continuing
Education classes only, you do not need to meet with an academic advisor
or faculty advisor.
Step 9
Register for classes. If you are enrolling in credit classes at BCC, you must apply for admissions before you can register. The college will mail a registration appointment date and time to students who are currently enrolled and to new students who turn in their applications by the due date listed in the BCC Credit Class Schedule.
Students who are approved for priority registration will be able to register before other BCC students. You will receive registration information in the mail, or contact your DSS staff person to find out the date and time you register. Students approved for priority registration should register as soon as possible so that DSS has time to coordinate your accommodations.
You may go to the Student Service Center desk for help. You can also register and pay online using the BCC website.
Note: If you are taking Continuing Education classes only, you are not required to apply for admissions. You may register for Continuing Education classes through the Continuing Education website.
